In a significant administrative development, the Telangana State Government has officially appointed retired High Court judge Justice A. Santosh Reddy as the new Chairman of the Telangana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) Appellate Tribunal. The official order was issued on Monday, with Justice Reddy scheduled to assume office on June 23, 2025.
This appointment comes following the elevation of the previous chairman, Rajasekhar Reddy, who was appointed as the Lokayukta in April last year. The position had remained vacant since then, and Justice Santosh Reddy’s appointment is expected to bring momentum to the functioning of the tribunal, especially in addressing pending appeals and ensuring speedy resolution of real estate disputes.
Distinguished Legal Career and Educational Background
Justice A. Santosh Reddy hails from Joganapalli village in Jagtial district, reflecting deep roots in Telangana’s legal and rural landscape. He began his academic journey at SKNR College, a prominent institution in his native district. He later pursued his law degree at Sri Krishnadevaraya University in Anantapur, a reputed university in Andhra Pradesh.
Furthering his specialization in the legal domain, Justice Reddy completed his postgraduate degree in law from Osmania University, Hyderabad—one of India’s leading institutions for legal education.
He commenced his legal practice in Karimnagar district in 1985. Subsequently, he was selected for the Munsif Court, marking the beginning of his judicial career. Over the years, he rose through the ranks to serve at various levels of the judiciary. Justice Reddy eventually retired as a Judge of the Telangana High Court in June 2023.
Justice A. Santosh Reddy also comes from a family with a strong tradition of public service. His father, Narayana Reddy, was a respected legislator known for his work in regional development and legislative affairs. This legacy is reflected in Justice Reddy’s continued commitment to law, governance, and justice delivery.
Role and Importance of the RERA Appellate Tribunal
The RERA Appellate Tribunal plays a vital role in the implementation of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. It functions as the appellate body where developers, buyers, and agents can challenge decisions of the RERA authority. The presence of an experienced jurist like Justice Santosh Reddy is expected to strengthen legal oversight, streamline dispute resolution, and boost stakeholder confidence in the real estate regulatory framework in Telangana.
Justice Reddy’s appointment Chairman of Telangana RERA Appellate Tribunal is being seen as a welcome step by legal professionals, real estate developers, and homebuyers alike. His judicial experience and deep understanding of both law and regional nuances are anticipated to greatly benefit the functioning of the Tribunal.
